Finding PDFs with filetype:

The filetype:pdf operator limits results to PDF files indexed by Google. Combine it with quoted keywords for precise matches: filetype:pdf "machine learning syllabus".

Index-of PDF searches

Directory listings sometimes appear as intitle:"index of" keyword filetype:pdf. These can surface public folders — but many listings include copyrighted material. Download only files you are permitted to use.

Example queries

  • filetype:pdf "annual report 2024"
  • filetype:pdf site:edu "research paper"
  • filetype:pdf "user manual" -sample
  • intitle:"index of" filetype:pdf documentation

Use the tool

Open Advanced File Finder → Documents → PDF. Add site: filters for universities or government domains when looking for official publications. Use NOT (-) operators to exclude spam pages.
